What does being a First-Generation College Graduate mean to you?
Being a first-generation graduate means that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. It demonstrates that everything my parents have done, especially all the sacrifices, to give my sister and I an education was not in vain.
What is your proudest moment from your time at UCSD?
My proudest moment at UC San Diego has been receiving Provost Honors after being in academic probation.
What advice do you have for current or future first-generation students?
You are where you are supposed to be. Always believe in yourself, ask for help, don't let your fears hold you back, and be open to new opportunities because there is always something to learn.
Who are the family members, friends or loved ones who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
I would like to thank my parents and my sister for their endless support and for believing in me even when I did not. I would not be where I am today without them. I would also like to thank my friends and the mentors I have had for their support and encouragement throughout my journey. Last, but definitely not least, I would like to thank my dogs, Canela and Q, for their love and emotional support.
Who are the staff, faculty or mentors who have been most influential throughout your college journey? Are there any words of gratitude you would like to share with them?
I would like to thank the staff at OASIS for their support and encouragement during my first years at UC San Diego, especially during my toughest quarters. I would also like to thank the UCDC staff at UC San Diego and DC for their help and advice.
What do you plan or hope to do after graduating?
My plan after graduating is to gain experience in the work field and then attend graduate school hopefully in the next 3-5 years.
