History

Ciiverse was created on September 28, 2017, 19 days after the launch of another Miiverse clone, Closedverse. It did not gain much activity, even during Closedverse shutdowns, as most users would use Cedar instead.

Early on, Ciiverse was buggy and had major security issues, and it was rumored that using the same password to sign up for Ciiverse as other clones could put a user at risk. The day after Ciiverse was launched, Closedverse's creator Arian hacked the site due to a vulnerability, according to SRGNation. These security issues were resolved later. Ciiverse had only a handful of communities, such as a General Discussion Community, a Ciiverse changelog, and a community that only one non-admin user, Dominic, could use.

Ciiverse was originally hosted under ciiverse.000webhostapp.com. Its domain was changed multiple times; these changes included devmemz.srgciiverse.x10host.com (a Ciiverse made exclusively for the developers), srgciiverse.x10host.com, ciiverse.rf.gd, and ciiverse.ga. Its last known activity comes from September 26, 2018, before Indigo was released.

Ciiverse (under srgciiverse.x10host.com), shut down on February of 2018 because, according to SRGNation, "it sucked and every feature added here is also on every other Miiverse clone ever." However, Ciiverse was brought back up under ciiverse.ga, before shutting down on October 1, 2018.

On September 13, 2020, another instance of Ciiverse was launched by SRGNation under uii.projectultima.xyz. This was shut down shortly after its launch.

Bitchverse

Bitchverse was a Miiverse clone that used Ciiverse code created by the user Ashley. One known instance of Bitchverse was released on September 2, 2018 under usernameissupergay.rf.gd. Not much else is known about it due to a lack of proper archives. It has since shut down.

Ciiverse Jr.

A new version of Ciiverse known as Ciiverse Jr., was created by SRGNation in April of 2020, under the domain cedarjrhd.rf.gd. The site was hosted by NyargleBargle, who also worked on fixing bugs. Due to Nyargle's inactivity, most of the posts on Ciiverse Jr. were spam. After months of inactivity, Nyargle returned to the site on October of 2020 after PF2M told her that spammers were on the site. When Nyargle became inactive again, spam continued, until December of 2020 when she returned and banned more spammers, who she claimed mostly consisted of users that were otherwise "generally [in] good-faith".

On March 20, 2021, Adrian, and to a smaller degree SMF9, began to spam Ciiverse Jr.'s General Discussion Community. Adrian would create new accounts for each post he made to make it harder for the admins to fully undo the raid. The posts and accounts were deleted later that day, with Nyargle stating that she was "not going to discuss the matter any further because that's what [the raiders] want us to do."

A backup of Ciiverse Jr. under cedarjr3.rf.gd was made on March 21 in case anything happened to the main site. Ciiverse Jr.'s domain would be suspended on March 22, 2021, though it would be brought back up the next day. Ciiverse Jr. would be suspended again on June 4, 2021, but was brought back later that day.

On July 8, 2021, an error prevented users from posting on Ciiverse Jr. Users could still post on the backup of Ciiverse Jr. This bug was fixed on August 29, 2021.

On May 15, 2022, a user known as Adam spammed both Ciiverse Jr. and its backup with pornographic Pokémon images, leading to both sites getting suspended. This would also happen to the clones Bradenverse and Bananaverse.

Dellverse

On June 29, 2022, the user Rixy created a rehost of Ciiverse known as "Dellverse" or "Ciiciiciiciiciiciiverse". It is likely a reference to how most of Cedar's image assets were replaced with the Dell logo days before its shutdown. It was shut down on July 1, 2022.

Sillyverse

On September 12, 2023, SRGNation created a new version of Ciiverse using Ultima code, under testly.srgnation.com, which was renamed to Sillyverse on October 1 and moved to silly.srgnation.com. testly.srgnation.com became a developer-only instance of Sillyverse that non-developers could not post in. Users are able to create their own communities on Sillyverse.

On October 10, 2023, SRGNation made a post on her Instagram account that advertised Sillyverse, and also ran the post as an ad on Instagram. This caused an influx of new users to join the site, leading to Sillyverse becoming one of the most active Miiverse clones of late 2023 and 2024. As of April 2024, over 800 accounts and 6000 posts have been made on Sillyverse.

Sillyverse contains several unique features. These include:

Planned features for Sillyverse include "CiiNotes", which are similar to communities except posts made on them won't display on the users' profiles, and automatic comment summaries that  summarize the type of comments being made on a post.

Users with a user ID under 25 are able to switch from viewing Sillyverse to an archive of Project ULTIMA.

As February 2, 2024, donators of Sillyverse are able to upload bigger files with a 100MB limit, and have a 10,000 character limit on posts. They are also able to remove their donator badges.
