CloneMii was a Miiverse clone created by the user Term and hosted by the user SourMints.

History

CloneMii was initially hosted as a private beta under clonemii.rf.gd at around 5:00 PM PST on May 11, 2021. Prior to May 23, 2021, users needed an invite key from Term in order to sign up for the site.

CloneMii was based off code from the private Miiverse clone Onverse, made by the user Rix. At around 11:00 AM PST, CloneMii moved to clonemii.webs.nf.

CloneMii was scheduled for maintenance on May 20, 2021 at 11:30 AM PST. Following the maintenance, an alternate link for an Indigo theme was made under sworld.webs.nf. It initially made the site look like Indigo, though as of May 23 it looks the same as the regular site, but with the Indigo logo and Indigo badges. From June 2021, the page for this theme stated that CloneMii was on maintenance, though it was the only instance of the site to display this message. It later served as a link to the Miiverse clone Sandwich World.

From at least May 23, 2021, anyone could sign up for CloneMii, though posts and communities could be viewed without an account.

On May 24, 2021, the user GreenBoi made an announcement that another theme for CloneMii was in the works. Additional info has not been publicly shared, and the state of the theme is currently unknown.

A maintenance was planned for May 25, but was cancelled. Another maintenance was planned the following day, though it would be cancelled again.

As of June 2021, users once again needed an invite key to create an account on CloneMii. On June 6, 2021, the user Jackster had created a CloneMii theme under rewrite.webs.nf called CloneMii+, or alternatively CloneMii Watermelon.

On June 10, 2021, Term stated under a post made by the user Aerith that if said post reached 6 yeahs, he would change the profile pictures of all users to a specific image of Sonic the Hedgehog. After the post received 6 yeahs, Term forced the image on all users' profile pictures, starting what was known as the "Sonic Event". Term and the admin Rix both deleted their accounts during the event. After about an hour, the event ended at around 10:30 AM PST, with the database being reverted to a previous state.

CloneMii Random Posts

CloneMii Random Posts is a series created by Term that chronicles posts and comments made on CloneMii with a text-to-speech voice reading over them, akin to Closedverse Awards. The first episode of the series was uploaded on June 27, 2021.

Original Link Shutdown

clonemii.webs.nf page on July 15, 2021.

On July 13, 2021 at 1:00 PM PST, the clonemii.webs.nf domain was shut down due to problems with its functions. CloneMii is still accessible on rewrite.webs.nf (the CloneMii+ theme), though it could only be viewed with an account.

On August 15, CloneMii went offline due to Term dealing with a personal situation. The site would automatically redirect to Juice. The site was brought back up on August 17.

On August 26, 2021, CloneMii was suspended alongside UniMii and Sandwich World. All three sites were brought back the next day.

On September 10, 2021, Term teased a feature known as "MiiTube" which was displayed on the site's menu. However, the next day he stated that it was cancelled.

On September 21, 2021, CloneMii was made public. Users no longer need an invite key to sign up, but they are required to type a four digit key displayed on the sign up page, to prevent bots from being created on the site. Term described making CloneMii public as "one of the biggest risks [the CloneMii team has] taken- and... the best risk yet." Following this decision, CloneMii became more active and some more users began signing up for it, contributing to the clone reaching over 3000 posts. As of November 2021, posts and communities could now be viewed without making an account.

Advert for CloneMii made by SourMints on December 12, 2021.

On December 5, 2021, CloneMii was temporarily shut down for internal maintenance. It was brought back up on December 7. As of December 12, 2021, CloneMii became compatible with Terminal Network, and it eventually became a requirement to have a Terminal Network account to sign up for CloneMii. Users who signed up prior to Terminal Network's implementation could still use their accounts to sign in to CloneMii.

Throughout January of 2022, CloneMii would experience multiple shutdowns. Term later discovered that these shutdowns were due to a problem with CloneMii's cloud provider, Rixycloud.

On January 22, 2022, CloneMii was made private once again. According to Term, this was "due to recent situations around the Miiverse clone community", which specifically involved a user known as Adam who got banned due to the staff being uncomfortable having him around.

On January 28, 2022, CloneMii returned to being public.

Permanent Shutdown

Message on CloneMii's page from January 29, 2022.

On the morning of January 29, 2022, CloneMii was shut down indefinitely. On CloneMii's home page, Term stated that he backed up CloneMii's code and database, though CloneMii would remain shut down.  He also stated that he had plans to shut down the site sometime in 2022. Because they were also under Term's hosting plan, bruhclone and Silver Club were shut down that day as well.

The cause for CloneMii's shutdown was most likely due to the user that got banned, Adam (also known as Mewtwo). Adam would make multiple rants about Term and being banned on other Miiverse clones such as Ciiverse Jr. and Adrianverse. According to a post he made on Adrianverse, Mewtwo forced Term to delete CloneMii, and stated that he would bother Term if it was brought back.

CloneMii V2

Screenshot of CloneMii Rewrite from June 7, 2021.

CloneMii V2 (initially known as CloneMii Rewrite) was an upcoming successor to CloneMii developed by Term. On June 7, 2021, Term announced that CloneMii Rewrite was beginning development. That day, he issued a form for entry to a closed beta of CloneMii Rewrite. As of June 10, 2021, the form was closed, stating that the beta entries were being processed.

On July 12, 2021, Term made a post stating that when CloneMii V2 is released, the original CloneMii domain, clonemii.webs.nf, would come back online to host CloneMii V2, and that the CloneMii+ theme would go under maintenance. On July 20, Term stated that development for CloneMii V2 would be halted.

On August 12, 2021, Term announced that CloneMii V2 development would continue thanks to the assistance of PF2M. On August 17, Term additionally stated that CloneMii V2 would be incompatible with the original CloneMii's database, so the original CloneMii (which was under the CloneMii+ domain at the time) would have to be archived. Term also stated that he would be making a service to transfer posts from the original CloneMii to CloneMii V2. He also stated that a "CloneMii+ V2" theme would be released following the release of CloneMii V2.

A comment from Term on December 19, 2021 suggests that CloneMii V2 might have been cancelled due to the work already put into the original CloneMii, and because Rix "isn't really working on" CloneMii V2.

NostalgiaMii/Bitch Club

Screenshot of NostalgiaMii.

In May of 2022, Rix created a private CloneMii rehost known as NostalgiaMii (also known as Bitch Club). Users need a passcode to "prove" that they are a "Bitch Club member" and access the site. A public version of NostalgiaMii (erroneously referred to as NostaligiaMii in some parts of the website) was released by Rix on May 16, 2022 under olv.qck.ar.nf. The site could only be viewed with an account, but anyone was free to sign up for the site. The private NostalgiaMii/Bitch Club, now referred to as "NostalgiaMii V0", was moved to olvprv.qck.ar.nf.

NostalgiaMii shut down on May 15, 2022, with most of the files in its server being deleted on May 19, 2022.

On June 2022, the olvprv.qck.ar.nf URL was used to host Bitch Club, which had a unique home page and logo. Bitch Club remained a private Miiverse clone, requiring a code to sign up. Users could also log in via Discord.

Bitch Club was shut down on June 11, 2022. The domain was suspended shortly after.

CloneMii Archives

On May 20, 2022, an archive of CloneMii was released by Rix on archive.qck.ar.nf. The site used the original CloneMii database, and contained all users' posts, yeahs, and followings. Users were unable to sign in or sign up for the archive. This archive was eventually suspended.

On September 9, 2023, a second archive of CloneMii was released by Term under clonemii-archive.isledelfino.net. The home page states that the archive allows viewers to "relieve [sic] the nostalgia of 2021". It also mentions that the user-generated ads that were displayed on the original CloneMii are now replaced by placeholder images. As an archive, it displays posts up to the date of CloneMii's shutdown on January 29, 2022, and does not allow users to sign in or sign up for the site.
