Orange Kloof is a restricted area that conserves a remnant Afromontane forest. Several of the routes listed need an Orange Kloof Permit (marked OKP). The permit system allows controlled access and helps to protect the delicate ecosystem. Permits can be obtained from the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) offices at Kloof Nek or Tokai.
This is a popular area and access is limited to 24 people per day, so booking well in advance is recommended. One needs to hike with the permit on hand as rangers do regular checks and hefty fines are issued for non-compliance.
Unless you are a member of the Mountain Club of South Africa, an approved Orange Kloof guide is also required to accompany you on the hike. (A good reason to join the MCSA!) The MCSA 1952 Route List booklet describes many routes between Intake Ravine and Myburgh's Waterfall Ravine, though they are overgrown and not particularly pleasant.
The climbs on the western side (Myburgh's Ravine, Myburgh's Waterfall Ravine and Myburgh's Corner) can be accessed from Suikerbossie or Farrier way (see map) and do not need a permit. Agatha's Gully, Caveman's Overhang and Wynberg Caves can be reached from Constantia Nek and also do not need a permit.
Note: Agatha's Gully and Constantia Corner are considered as part of Orange Kloof, but are included in TM East section.
