This route was popular 15-20 years ago before the Constantia Nek Acrobranch Zipline was installed. The start was off Bay Road, beyond the entrance to the normal Vlakkenberg path but this is now fenced off and closed to the public. As a result the first rocky peak is no longer done so the scrambling is shortened.
The access is now via Blue Valley Avenue much further down the Hout Bay Main Road from Constantia Nek. Turn left into Blue Valley avenue and again turn left at Fynbos Close which ends and becomes the gravel Bay road. Currently the gravel Bay road surface is poor, but drive carefully until the sign at the steep curved driveway to the guesthouse "Cabin In Da Woods". (Note that as of November 2025 Google shows the Cabin in the wrong place) Park here and please be careful not to obstruct the road and the entrance to the Cabin In Da Woods driveway. Some approximately 230 metres further along the road look out for a Cairn on the right marking the start of the path that leads up the the Rocky Peaks Ridge ( 34° 0'53.04"S 18°23'39.80"E ). Follow this for approx 500 metres to get onto the ridge.
The descent is via the path leading off from the main Vlakkenberg trail that goes back to Constantia Nek, and can be found shortly before the fence line. The path eventually joins the one coming up from Bay Road.
NB an alternate way to do the Ridge is to use the normal Vlakkenberg trail path near Constantia Nek, and then descend the Ridge path, climb the ridge route and return to Constantia Nek on the original Vlakkenberg trail.
