Diagonal Route
Location: Starts off the Pipe track and may be accessed from Kloof Nek, or from Theresa avenue, Rontree estate, Camps Bay. OSM map
Overview: The start from the Pipe Track is signposted, and the path is reasonably clear. After the initial zig-zags there is a short vertical rock step before the path continues right to below the Porcupine cave. Paths leading off left go into Blind Gully.
Route Description:
Since Blinkwater ravine became dangerous and was closed, the Diagonal path is the first way up the Atlantic side from Kloof Nek along the Pipe Track, and is a justifiably popular route. However, the Porcupine ravine watercourse gets washed away by winter rains, and needs care. Halfway up Porcupine the path splits and Diagonal traverses across Jubilee buttress and finishes up Barrier ravine then descends into Red Gods valley.
