Strip Plots

It is possible to use either vertical strips (as commonly used for solution NMR spectra) or horizontal strips which are well suited to many solid-state MAS NMR spectra. Use the button in the Strips toolbar to switch between the use of vertical and horizontal strips in each window. The Strips toolbar also allows strips to be added, moved or deleted manually.

Generating a series of strips quickly

In order to generate a series of strips, for instance for consecutive residues, use either the Resonance: Resonances or the Peak: Peak Lists pop-ups. If using the Browse Resonances pop-up, filter the table for the resonances for which the strips will be generated: clicking on the '?' in the |Assign Name| column header. In the filtering pop-up select [Regular Expression] and enter e.g. 'N|Ca' or 'N|C$' in order to generate NCa or NCO strips, respectively. Then click [Filter Include]. Now select the pairs of resonances from the residues you would like to generate strips for (use the 'Ctrl' key to select several non-consecutive rows in the table; it will also help to sort the table by |Residue| or |Spin System #|). Finally select which window you want the strips to appear in using the drop-down menu above the table and then click [Strip Selected] to generate the strips.

If using the Peak: Peak Lists pop-up, go to the {Peak Table} tab and make sure the correct spectrum is selected from the drop-down menu. You can now select one peak from each strip that you want to generate (use the 'Ctrl' key to select several non-consecutive rows in the table), choose the window in which you want the strips to be displayed using the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner and then click [Strip Selected]. A series of strips (one for each peak selected) will now be created in that window.

Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to interleave strips from different spectra (e.g. NCACX and NCOCX) directly in Analysis. This should become possible in v3, however. In the mean time strips can be interleaved in a graphics software to generate figures for publication (see Printing Strips below)

Printing Strips

When printing strips using Window: Print Window, it may be useful to select "Use Centre and Width" in the {Region} tab. This way you have easy control over the width used for printing regardless of the strip width displayed in the window. Following printing it is fairly easy to re-order or interleave strips from different spectra using software such as Inkscape, Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator. See here for further advice.
