Wire Sculpture
The project that we did was a wire sculpture. The goal was to use a physical reference to create a realistic wire sculpture using only wire and the fish hook technique. The subject of my creation is a crab. The setting of my creation is a crabs body. I chose to make this specifically because I like crabs because of their body shape and arms. The steps I went through in creating this project were choosing a reference, making a base using fish hook connections, then, bending the wire to make the crab 3 dimensional and adding arms. The materials used when I made this project were wire. I chose to compose my art this way because I thought that it looked cool especially because of the crabs arms.
Some techniques I use while making my art were the fish hook connection technique. You can see all over my piece. At first my project was going to be a water bottle, but I thought that was to basic and simple so I did a crab.
The meaning behind my artwork is showing the overpopulations of crabs in Maine and how it affects the environment. This project relates to me because I like crabs. If I were to do this project again I would’ve done regular wire on the whole thing because I accidentally started using silver wire at the beginning and I think I makes my project look a little weird.
