Scratchboard

The project that we did was a scratchboard photo. The goal was to use a picture that we created or took, print the image and grid it, and mimic the image onto a scratchboard surface. The subject of my creation is a Paris skyline. The setting of my creation is a Skyline. I chose to make this specifically because I love landscapes and I wanted to make something that provoked interest. The steps I went through in creating this project were choosing an image, gridding the image and scratching out the image. The materials used when I made this project were pencils, scratchboard and a scratch tool. I chose to compose my art this way because I wanted the picture to have a frame of the gate.

Some techniques I use while making my art were cross-hatching, hatching and gridding. You can see it all over my work. At first my project was going to be a picture of me and my friends, but I then decided that it should be something more eye provoking so that the viewer would have something to look at other than people.

The meaning behind my artwork is showing that Paris isn’t as beautiful as everybody makes is seem. This project relates to me because I like creating skyline in my artwork, you can see it in many of my other pieces. If I were to do this project again I would have not done such a complex photo because it was hard to incorporate every aspect of the image.
