The assignment was to create three drawings, one hallway or corner of a room, one object, and one self portrait. The point was to keep these, and at the end of our foundations of art career, see how we have developed. My three subjects were, the science wing hallway, which I chose because it had the most distinctive traits compared to other hallway, a bottle of vinegar, which I chose because it was the first thing I found in the house, and myself. I made my work with pencils and my finger to shade, these were the only materials I utilized.
Some elements of art and principles of design I used while making my work was shading. I used shading to make the pencil lines softer, so they did not stick out as much. Another element I used was space and balance, I wanted to make sure I positioned each of my subjects correctly on the page. One element I did not use was color. I didn't use color because I thought the work looked strong without it. My project evolved because I started my self portrait out with just my face, but decided I wanted to include my clothes in my picture.
The meaning behind my artwork was to show what I am capable of as an artist now, and how I will evolve as an artist. The project relates to my life because this project is a way to test where you are now so that you can look back at it in the future. I am proudest of the shading I did in the tiles of the hallway floor. This is because It took me a long time and I am proud of the result. It struggled with getting the shape of my head in my self portrait, I overcame this struggle by trying to measure either side so that my face was symmetric. I would change my eyes If I had more time because I don't like the way they turned out.
