I’m calling this project, Maine Duck Stamp because it is a project from a competition that shows which students can make realistic ducks for a stamp. I chose to create this specific work because I like using watercolor and different colors in my work and the competition was open to whatever media you wanted to use. I tried to show the duck up close and show the features of the feather and I did that by making the duck in the foreground.
For materials, I used colored pencils and watercolor. I used watercolor for the different backgrounds and colored pencils for the duck. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: brushstrokes and blending. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that I showed the features of my selected duck (the Nene duck). I wanted my artwork to be realistic but abstract and I did that by making the background abstract but the duck simple.
I like the way my work looks because ther duck looks realistic. However, I struggled the background looking the way I wanted it too. I wanted to show a abstract background and i did this by making it with a simple color palette correlated with the setting. If I created another work like this I may have made the background realistic. My work shows that I learned make a piece inspired by a competition.
