The project that we did was an assemblage sculpture. The goal was to choose an animal and create a sculpture that of that animal with recycled parts. The subject of my creation is a dolphin. The setting of my creation is a dolphins body. I chose to make this specifically because I love dolphins, they are my favorite animal. The steps I went through in creating this project were choosing an animal, creating an armature out of tape and newspaper, then I covered the armature in paint samples and scraps of magazines. The materials used when I made this project were magazines, tape, newspaper, paint samples, and glue. I chose to compose my art this way because I thought that it looked cool with the paint samples on the fins and the magazines on the body.
Some techniques I use while making my art were hot gluing and bursting Elmer's glue onto the magazine pieces to make them stick to the body. You can see all over my piece. At first my project was going to be a turtle, but I noticed other people were doing turtles.
The meaning behind my artwork is showing the harm inflicted on dolphins with the trash that you put into the ocean. This project relates to me because I love dolphins. If I were to do this project again I would’ve done gotten more paint strip because on the back side of the top fin there are paint strips on the front, but not the back.
