Painted Clay Sculpture

I’m calling this project, Colors of Life because it is a metaphor for all the colors in the coral reef which are now dying and it is a symbol for when all the colors of the coral reef were bright. The subject is a turtle . I chose to create this specific work because I really like sea turtles and they are the symbol of climate change. When I was creating this I had a colorful idea in mind.

For materials, I used clay and glue and acrylic paint. I used the clay to give it form and the paint to give it color and design. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: dotting and scratching. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that the colors were bright and not bland and I needed to blend paints to do this. I wanted my artwork to show color and brightness and I did this by mixing paint to make bright colors.

I like the way the dots around the shells fade and kind of dissipate However, I struggled with gluing the arm back on because it kept falling off. If I created another work like this I may have been more careful to make sure the limbs were strong enough. My work shows that I learned how to make a piece of work using clay and a clay form.
