Sustained Investigation #10

I’m calling this project, Litter Bugs because I created this piece inspired by the fact that we call people who litter, litter bugs, so I turned litter into bugs. I chose to create this specific work because I feel very passionately about spreading awareness about how we treat the earth and I think stopping littering is a good way to start. I tried to different types of litter and bugs and I did that by making three different pieces of litter with three different bug appendages.

For materials, I used pen and marker. I used marker to color the grass and bugs. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: repetition and layering. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that the words were behind the bugs so they still stood out but didn’t take away from the figures. I wanted my artwork to be a statement piece and I did that by layering my words behind my figures to make a statement.

I like the way my work looks symmetrical. However, I struggled with coming up with different appendages to give each of the animals. I wanted to show statement not to litter and I did this by using a play on words. If I created another work like this I may have not done a border because this piece didn’t require one. My work shows that I learned how to make a piece of work from that brings attention to an important topic.
