I’m calling this project, red camp because this photo was taken at the lake at my camp and we call my camp red camp. The subject is a landscape with my little brother coming off the page. I chose to create this specific work because I love lakes and landscapes and my camp, but i wanted the ripples of the water to come off the page. When I was creating this I had an abstract idea in mind.
For materials, I used magazines and cardboard. I used the magazines for the art rock and cardboard to give my work depth. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: cutting and outlining. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that it wasn’t to abstract that you couldn’t tell what it is, but it was still abstract. I wanted my artwork to show a landscape with shapes coming off the page and i did the by layering the cardboard and ripples of the water and by making shards of the sand come off the paper as well as the clouds.
I like the way something is coming off the paper. However, I struggled with cutting the base cardboard because it came off unevenly. If I created another work like this I may have used a different material to could off the paper because the cardboard is too thick and visible. Also I would have make more things pop out more to make it more 3 dimensional. My work shows that I learned how to use a material based on an important subject to make something 3 dimensional.
