Sustained Investigation #14

I’m calling this project, 97% because I created this piece inspired by the fact that in a recent poll, 97% of women said they were either sexually assaulted or harassed. I chose to create this specific work because I feel very passionately about spreading awareness about this fact. I tried to show the feeling of loneliness and sadness through this photo and I did that by isolating the girl in the photo.

For materials, I used pen and marker. I used marker to highlight the coat and the numbers. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: repetition and cutting. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that the girl; looked isolated to highlight her emotions. I wanted my artwork to be a statement piece and I did that by using minimal color to highlight certain things.

I like the way my work looks symmetrical. However, I struggled with making the characters and people in the water because their small compared to the scenery. I wanted to show a sad scene and I did this by making the girl the only character in the piece. If I created another work like this I may have redone the girl because her neck looks awkward. My work shows that I learned how to make a piece of work from that brings attention to an important topic.
