This assignment was to take a random squiggle that somebody else has cerated and make it into something more. The assignment could vary as you could make it into anything you want. As you can see I can turned mine into a wave. This is the subject of my assignment. My subject was my wave and my surfer riding the wave. Another subject I had was the shark which I had a harder time creating because I am not as familiar with drawing sharks than I am waves. I made my piece by utilizing my pencils, colored pencils and shading techniques. I used an ombre affect for the wave because I didn't want to have to draw the whole sea because it would mess up the shark's placement. I only did certain colors because I did not want to pull focus from the original squiggle.
Like I said, some of the colors, I did not want to use because I did not want to pull any focus out of my piece. I used a lot of spacing in the water because I wasn't sure what I should fill the space with. I did use movement in my piece as well, I draw some defining lines to make it look like the shark, surfer, and wave were all moving at a fast pace. I arranged my work so that the shark was behind the surfer, I thought it told more of the story if I mad e the shark chasing the surfer without the surfer knowing about it. My project evolved because originally I was going to have it be a person. If you shift the squiggle ninety degrees, it resembles a face of a man. I then decided on a wave because I wanted to go for something harder then a person.
The meaning behind my artwork is a surfer getting chased by a shark in the sea without him knowing. My project relates to my life because I love the water, swimming and more, and I always have dreams about sharks sneaking up on me without me knowing. The part I am proudest about in my artwork is the wave. I like the shading and ombre I did with the color and I think I did a good job on the shape of the crest of the wave. I struggled while making this piece because I did not know what to do with the loop at the end of the squiggle. I overcame this struggle by turning it into a bubble and having a line of bubbles come out of the fishes mouth. If I could fix one thing about my piece it would be to make the bubbles more defined I think that the bubbles look messier than I was hoping for.
