Sustained Investigation #6

I’m calling this project, The Democratic Hoax because our current president called climate change a democratic hoax and I feel very passionately that it’s not. I chose to create this specific work because I was inspired by one of the bell ringers to have bring awareness to global warming and environmental issues which is what I hope to continue to do in my pieces. I tried to show the world bring behind him as he says this because it shows that he is ignoring this pressing issue and lying to the American people about it.

For materials, I used watercolor and marker. I used the watercolor to make smoke in the background. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: blending and shading. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that the president looked semi-realistic. I wanted my artwork to be simple and I did that by making the background smoke so you can focus on the main part of the piece.

I like the way the words block out the burning world because that’s what he is doing with his words literally. However, I struggled with shading using markers. I wanted to show a simple background and i did this by not making it a scene but just smoke to not distract from the words. If I created another work like this I may have made the president uglier. My work shows that I learned how to make a piece of work from that brings attention to an important topic.
