I’m calling this project, a day in the park because I want to express that disability is normal and that it should be a normal thing in society and not shunned or mocked. The subject is children playing basketball and a dog with no hind legs watching. I chose to create this specific work because I wanted to show that people with disability need to be included in everything we do. I also wanted to show that people aren’t the only ones with disabilities and animals have them too. When I was creating this I had a nice theme in mind.
For materials, I used sharpie, markers, pen, and graphite. I used marker for just about everything. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: outlining, and blending. While creating this work, I paid close attention to the people because I wanted o make them stand out. I wanted my artwork to look like a nice scene and I did this by using bright colors.
I like the way the dog stands out to show my point of animals and I like that I didn’t add skin tone so it doesn’t exclude any race. However, I struggled with filling in the court. If I created another work like this I may have used a different material for the basketball court because marker was too streaky and dark. My work shows that I learned how to convey a message through art given a prompt.
