Blind Contour

The subject of my images are 5 faces. Many people chose to create something more than a face but I kept with my design for a reason. I utilized sharpie and colored pencils to create my image. I chose to leave my artwork as people because I thought I could make each of the people symbolic on what our culture views as "beautiful". Each of the colored parts of the faces represents a part of what our culture today, views and criticizes. They are , hair, clothes, eyes, lips, and makeup. I chose to do this because it what I was thinking of at the time.

I used shading when making the larger face is the makeup on it. I tried to mimic the effect of blush by lightly drawing light pink and wetting my finger and rubbing it in. I also utilized color because when making the hair I wanted to express the large spectrum of hair styles so I added a large spectrum of colors to the hair. Another clear composition is line. I utilized line when I was creating my original blind contour drawing without the color and scene because I couldn't''t see so line was the only element I could incorporate. My project evolved because I originally planned to make three of the heads into a snowman, but I evolved to keeping it as the five faces that you see.

The meaning behind my project is to show the flaws in our society that we only care what is on the outside and not what is on the inside. This project relates to my life because I need to also correct this flaw of not only looking on the outside, but also looking on the inside. Something that particularly bothers me about this project is the fact that has so much white space behind it. If I could go back this is what I would change.
