Sustained Investigation #11

I’m calling this project, Cousins because I originally made it trying to draw the bridge of Cousins Island, but it’s not as proportional as Cousins Island so the two people could also be cousins. I chose to create this specific work because my sustained investigation has been about exploring environmental issues and I wanted to show some of the beauty our world has to offer through sunsets and an aesthetic image of one of my favorite places. I tried to show Cousins Island and I did that by creating a bridge that looked like cousins from energy but the sea behind it is too unpreportional to be Cousins Island.

For materials, I used colored watercolor, and colored pencil. I used watercolor for the background of the statement. I used a variety of techniques and methods including: layering and ombre. While creating this work, I paid close attention to making sure that the sunset looked flowy and abstract while also showing the contrast of colors. I wanted my artwork to be an aesthetic piece and I did that by using soft colors that are pleasing to the eye.

I like the way my work looks aesthetic and a beautiful scene. However, I struggled with making it look like Cousins Island from memory. I wanted to show a colorful scene and I did that by using a range of colors as the background for the sunset. If I created another work like this I may have made the background realistic. My work shows that I learned how to make a piece of work from that brings attention to an important topic and shows the beauty of our world.
