Strasser

I believe that I have read somewhere that the Strasser was the lowest level of the SML clarinets. I think this one is somewhat lower quality keywork than I have seen with the very top models of SML clarinets, but you can't get better intonation than this. This is another **Phil's Favorite**. Some Strasser clarinets are stamped with SML also.

See the related King Strasser here.

Many thanks to Paul Phillips who gave me this clarinet and provided the opportunity to review it.

Serial #356

Barrel: 65.7mm

Bore LH joint top: 14.8mm

Bore LH joint at bottom: 14.5mm

Intonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page.

For this test, I pulled 0 mm at the barrel and 0 mm at the center tenon. I had to use a 64.3 Ridenour barrel to be in tune. So this test is not with the original barrel.

Intonation summary: This is professional level poly-cylindrical intonation.

Key work quality: This is good intermediate key work. I noticed things I didn’t like about the fit and finish that made it more difficult to seat pads.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: Anyone, beginner to professional.

Condition issues noted: none. Wonderful reddish wood. The reddish wood for everything except the bell is very, very dense.

Could this clarinet have any relation to Hugo?!
