Piccard / Andre Piccard

The Andre Piccard is just like the first Brittany I reviewed. I believe these two to be Malerne products.Serial #A 29634 in very small numbers. The numbers are located on the bottom of the LH joint, but at the top of the RH joint, so that they are close together when assembled.Barrel: not original. However this plastic barrel seems to be almost the right length for the horn at 62.8mm.Bore LH joint top: 14.4mmBore LH joint at bottom: 14.4mmIntonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page. For the first test, I pulled 0 at the barrel and 1.3mm in the center for this horn, using the plastic non-original barrel. For the second numbers, I used a ridiculously short Noblet wooden barrel which is 57.1mm, pulled 2.8mm. It still needs to be pulled at the center.

Intonation summary: If this instrument had a 60mm barrel, it would play quite well in tune. It is similar, but not just like the Brittany.

Key work quality: I don’t like the keys. They are sturdy enough. The flat key cups make it harder to float in the pads. One has to use more heat, because the back of the key cup is thicker. And one needs to use thinner pads. The keys are very like the Boosey & Hawkes Edgeware.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: Beginning players, and maybe intermediate students.
