Pruefer Artist stamped Carl Fischer

Intonation summary: I am surprised that I have to pull out so far with a barrel this long! This is good intonation. It would have been professional grade intonation when this was made, and nowadays intermediate intonation. I wonder what might be done with a different barrel.

Key work quality: The key work is really different, as I have described elsewhere. The made some very sturdy key work out of what appears to be inferior metal. The keys are more likely to break than they are to bend. I fear that the keys could cause problems.

This clarinet is most appropriate for beginning to fairly advanced clarinet players, especially anyone who will enjoy a vintage instrument made in America by German immigrants. This was probably Pruefer’s top of the line, or perhaps this was next to the Deepwood model.
