Linton

Thanks to Michelle C for allowing me to review this clarinet. Her parents bought it for her around 1966-67. Her father engraved his Social Security number on it— for identification if it were ever stolen.

The bell is stamped Made in France on the back, and the logo says USA—PARIS. I think this shows clear signs of being made by Malerne. It appears to be made of plastic instead of hard rubber.

Serial #10W25946, Batch mark V40, shown on both keyed joints and on the back of the F/C key.

Barrel: 63.2mm

Bore LH joint top: 14.5mm

Bore LH joint at bottom: 14.8mm (taper in wrong direction for good tuning)

Intonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page.

For this test, I pulled 1.6mm at the barrel and 1.2mm in the center.

Intonation summary: This is acceptable for a beginning student. If playing with a piano or with small ensembles, this instrument will quickly show its inaccuracy in intonation.

Key work quality: The keys shined up beautifully. However when I needed to adjust a couple of them, I found that they bend rather easily. This calls for care in assembling and disassembling.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: A beginning student who is careful with his/her instrument.
