Note that there is also a Master Model marked as Evette & Schaeffer.

Serial #D22191 for Guy Y.

Barrel: 65.2mm

Bore LH joint top: 14.6mm

Bore LH joint at bottom: 14.4mm Possibly poly-cylindrical

On the same day, I also tested Evette Schaeffer serial K21632. These are different models and the plain E&S is clearly better than the Master Model.

Intonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page.

For this test, I used my Ridenour 63.4mm barrel and pulled 0 at the barrel, and 0 in the center for this horn.

For testing the K8545, I used its own barrel, everything pushed in all the way.

Intonation summary: If this was made as a poly-cylindrical clarinet, clearly something went seriously wrong. If a shorter barrel were used, then the notes that were in tune would be sharp. Still, this is very workable intonation for beginners, or for intermediate players who are clued into how to adjust the intonation in different places and at what volume. Again, I always do these tests playing rather stupidly loud (not trying to make adjustments).

Key work quality: Good quality Buffet key work.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: Beginners.

Phil's Master Model reconditioning:

16Fec2012 #K8545, 65.1mm barrel. Also done for Guy Y.

Top LH joint: 14.6mm, Bottom same: 14.3mm This is better than the first one, I think. The flat notes that are in the throat register improve in intonation when played softly, but the ones in the Chalemeau do not change that much with softer playing.

16Apr2013, #K4623, for Chris Z. from NY, NY.

13Jul2014, #D31240, for Brooke C. in IA. Key damage but wood in excellent condition. Plays with wonderful tone.

7Apr2022, #K7902, for Clif Moberg. I find that this one has very fine intonation. See the review below. The pattern for the Master Model is to have very flat intonation in the last three notes of the horn.
