I found the original mouthpiece to be unplayable for me. It was probably designed for someone playing double lip with a soft reed— a totally opposite approach to mine.

For this test, I used the long barrel and pulled almost 1 mm at the barrel, and the same at the center tenon.

Curiously enough, the bell has a series of exterior grooves on the flange of the bell. This is an unusual feature, as most clarinets of any time period have a metal ring around the flange to stave off cracks. This feature does nothing for the for the sound or tone, but certainly looks unique.

Intonation summary: This is quite good intonation for a large bore clarinet, but does not come up to today’s professional standard.

Key work quality: I don’t normally like B&H key work. This has the same key work, but it is made of much better steel than found on some of their cheaper clarinets. This clarinet should stay in regulation. This clarinet has the flat key cups on the inside. For the lower register, the medium thickness pads worked well, and the thin pads for the upper register.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: Good intermediate and advanced players.

Condition issues noted: None. Excellent.
