Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must work to provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so that children can stay healthy.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our remarkable pupils for walking to and from school You are keeping yourselves healthy, whilst also helping to look after our local environment.

Character Curriculum

Saturday Dec 18 6:51amPosted By J Croxon

At Lea Forest we aim to develop our pupils’ character through the growth of relationships that define us as humans. Through our curriculum, we develop a set of competencies (behaviours) which enable each and every one of our pupils to lead a remarkable life. These competencies can be found on the Character Curriculum page of the LFPA Website.

On this occasion, we would like you to peel some vegetables. This might be as part of a festive celebration or one of your weekly meals… Remember to send your peeling pictures to Mr Croxon or your class teachers (either on Class Dojo or Twitter) and the best ones will be evidenced in the Character Curriculum (evidence) Book for your class!

Mr Clarke-Castello's End of Term Messages

Saturday Dec 18 6:51amPosted By J Croxon

After a long and successful term we have finally made it to the holidays. The children have had a wonderful time preparing for Christmas and taking part in Christmas activities over the last few weeks. The Christmas productions have been absolutely amazing this week and we were so glad to be able to invite parents and carers to come in and enjoy the shows. They have also been working incredibly hard in their lessons and making great progress. We are extremely proud to report that 90% of our Year 2 children passed the phonics test that they would have taken back in June when they were in Year 1. This just shows how hard the staff and pupils have worked to catch up on lost learning from last year.

We are also very proud to report that we’ve raised over £4,200 this term through events organised by our wonderful PCAB (Parent Community Advisory Board). Thanks to everyone for your generosity and kind contributions. All of this money will be spent back in school to provide further excellent learning opportunities for the children.

Our attendance has been the BEST it has ever been with us exceeding our 96.5% target for the year to date. We end the term at 97% with this week’s attendance finishing at 98%. Well done for this wonderful achievement.

In true tradition, the staff team have created a Christmas video to wish everyone a very merry Christmas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBJFQkR2Jn0&t=1s

We would like to wish each and every one of you a truly special Christmas. Even with the spread of Omicron on the horizon, we are still as dedicated as ever to keeping your child as safe as possible and give them the very best education. We will of course update our safety plans should we need to over the holidays and share these with you. With so much concern and worry around, it is so very important that the children have a special time with their families and loved ones. They have been a credit to you and we look forward to seeing you all safe and well on Wednesday 5 January 2022.

From all of us at Lea Forest, we’d like to wish you

a Very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

IQM Assessment

Saturday Dec 11 6:51amPosted By J Croxon

On Thursday we had our IQM Centre of Excellence Review in which an external assessor met with pupils, staff, parents and governors to discuss our inclusive practice at Lea Forest and our progress towards the targets set during our previous review. Lea Forest is seen as a community in which we all work together and have high ambitions for each and every child with the school council deciding on "One Secure Family" as the three words they would use to describe the school. Our school vision "Find Your Remarkable" shone out and we have made excellent progress towards the targets we set ourselves and we look forward to continuing our inclusion journey.

Rights of The Child Update

Saturday Dec 11 6:51amPosted By J Croxon

On 10 December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This important moment in human history is now remembered on that date every year and is known as Human Rights Day.

Children’s rights are human rights so we can celebrate them alongside the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article 4 states that Governments must do all that they can to make sure every child can enjoy their rights.

Messages from Mr Clarke-Castello

Saturday Dec 11 6:51amPosted By J Croxon

We’ve ended this week by celebrating ‘Christmas Jumper Day’. It’s such a magical time of year in school with everyone’s spirits high as there’s just one week left before we break-up for Christmas! All of our children have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas productions which are taking place next week. If you are planning on coming along to watch, you are in for a real treat.

Christmas Fair

Our Christmas Fair will be held on today (Friday 10 December) from 3:30-5:30pm. This will be an opportunity for everyone to come along and spend money on each of our stalls and help raise funds for school. Please ensure that you stay safe and socially distance where possible.

Christmas Shows

We are pleased to be opening our hall doors again this year and look forward to welcoming families into watch our shows. However, there will be a few things in place to ensure everyone’s safety:

- Adults and parent visitors MUST wear a face mask

- Wash hands and sanitize before entering school

- There’s a restriction to 2 tickets of entry per pupil

For those of you that can’t make it in person, we will be filming all of our productions and will be adding these to our Youtube channel LeaForest:TV.

Remember to bring along some money as there will be a raffle each day led by our PCAB.

Attendance Meetings

This week Mr Taylor, Miss Wale and Mr Wills have held attendance meetings with parents where attendance has been highlighted as a concern. These meetings have been very effective and have been a chance for parents to understand where attendance is low and close to being classed as persistent absence. We have also been able to offer support through a variety of school actions. If you are unsure of your child’s attendance percentage and what this means in terms of our school target, please contact Miss Wale or Mr Wills via Class Dojo. This week we have been so impressed with the children’s fantastic attendance. Attendance for Years 1 to 6 has been 97.5% this week, with 4 classes achieving 100%. Please keep this up for the last week of term. Our end of term activities are all part of our carefully planned curriculum and we do not want anyone to miss out. Next half term we will continue our drive to improve attendance and punctuality. We will in particular be focussing on the attendance of our Reception pupils with the aim to promote good attendance habits early on that can then be sustained throughout children’s Lea Forest journey.

I hope that you all have a great weekend - Enjoy and take care!

Mr Clarke-Castello

As well as meeting our local librarians, the children had a great time exploring and discovering their favourite stories before having a chance to listen to our local librarians favourite stories. More information about Glebe Farm Library can be found on their website at: https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/directory_record/5133/glebe_farm_library

This week's right of the week is article 14: Every child has the right to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights.

We want to take this opportunity to say Happy Hanukkah or Hanukkah Sameach to the families who are celebrating Hanukkah this week.

Times Table Rockstar Update

Saturday Dec 4 7:51amPosted By J Croxon

Well done to all of the children in 4CW as they are top of the leaderboard again for achieving the highest number of coins. Rapid recall of multiplication facts is a fundamental skill and we would like all of our children to be fluent mathematicians so please encourage your children to play TTRS at home. Remember the Top Of The Rocks Competition is taking place over this half term with the Top 3 Rockstars earning certificates and prizes at the end of this half term.

In the blink of an eye, another week has come to an end and what a great end to the week it has been with the publication of our fantastic Ofsted report. I have included the full report within this newsletter, but you can also download it and read it here.

Christmas Fair

Our Christmas Fair will be held on Friday 10 December from 3:30 - 5:30pm. This will be an opportunity for everyone to come along and spend money on each of our stalls and help raise funds for school.

Christmas Shows

We are pleased to be opening our hall doors again this year and look forward to welcoming families into watch our shows. Our children in Early Years and KS1 have been rehearing - learning their words and songs. You are in for a real treat from what I’ve heard so far. Children in KS2 will be singing popular Christmas songs in their shows. Remember to bring along some money as there will be a raffle each day led by our PCAB.

Attendance

After a dreadful start to the week, with many children staying at home due to the cold weather, attendance has improved steadily again. Our attendance target is 96.5% and we would like to see all classes achieving this in the last two weeks before the end of term. Letters have been sent out to parents requesting meetings to discuss attendance where this is a concern. These will be taking place with the attendance officer and members of the senior leadership team. Please ensure your child comes to school every day. There are many fantastic activities taking place during the next two weeks which they will not want to miss out on!

Punctuality Spot Checks

This week we have been monitoring punctuality to ensure that all children are arriving on time at the start of the school day. Members of the senior leadership team have handed out punctuality concern letters to several parents already this week and will continue todo so for the remainder of the term.

The school gates open at 8:45am and children are expected to be in school ready to learn by 9:00am.If your child arrives after this time the following effects

can occur: Your child may feel embarrassed coming in late in front of their friends, miss vital learning at the beginning of lessons, miss important instructions for the rest of the school day, learn bad habits which could affect their employability in the future.
