posted 27 Feb , 10:44 by J Croxon

Lea Forest is taking part in the '100 million minute read'. Running from 1st March - 9th March.

This is a national competition across England and Wales where we try and get children to collectively read 100 million minutes in a week.

Starting on Thursday 1st March (World Book Day) and running until Friday 9th March 2018, Our children will be joining children and young people across the country and logging their reading minutes in class and at home. Prizes will be awarded to those schools or settings who achieve the highest average number of reading minutes per child.

Don't forget to share your reading activities at home as well via class dojo and twitter! Include the hashtag #100MillionMinutes in any of your posts on Twitter. (Search for @lea_forest_aet)

Weather Reminder

posted 26 Feb , 10:26 by J Croxon

We'll be working extra hard to keep the academy open over the next few days to deal with the forecast bad weather and have made sure that we have plenty of deicer, grit and snow shovels to keep our grounds clear and safe for all of our academy community.

Please make sure that you send your child to school with a warm hat, scarf and gloves during this cold spell.

In the unlikely event of us having to close the academy due to bad weather we will inform parents via our website (www.leaforestacademy.org) twitter: (@lea_forest_aet) Facebook.com: www.facebook.com/leaforestprimary) Text and classdojo and the local Radio stations (BBC WM, Heart, Free Radio).

Attendance and Punctuality

posted 02 Feb , 13:01 by J Croxon

As a school we are working really hard to raise our attendance and reach our 97% target. We need our whole community to help support us and ensure that children arrive on time . Our gates open at 8:45am and close at 9:00. Our attendance team will always make contact on the first day of an absence. Please ensure that you respond to our attendance texts or contact the school on the first day of an absence to let us know why your child is absent. Failure to do this may result in a home visit from our attendance team. Persistent absence may result in a fine being served by the local authority and potentially a court case. Last term families from Lea Forest received fines from the local authority totalling £2722. Please help to avoid this situation by ensuring your child is attending school on time every day for the remainder of the school year.

Parent Reminder

If you have a concern please discuss this with your child’s class teacher in the first instance. Staff are available after school and appointments can be made via the school office on 0121 675 3985. If this concern is not resolved at this point we request that you make a meeting with our phase leaders after school. Concerns about safeguarding should be bought to the attention of our DSLs. Please allow the school to investigate concerns rather than approaching other parents directly.

Champions!!!

Our amazing girls football team had a fantastic time at the Aston Villa academy this week . The team managed to keep a clean sheet throughout the tournament and had a fantastic penalty shoot out with our sister academy Percy Shurmer. After 12 penalties the teams couldn’t be separated and both teams were declared winners. Well done to Miss Lewis and the girls!
