Period 6- All 8th graders pick up their lunch and bring it back to their halls.

1- Open the Outsiders Project assignment in Google Classroom in Language Arts and read over the instructions for your classes.
2- All activities-- except those in hard copy-- are attached in Google Classroom. If you need to turn a hard copy portion into me-- you need to do it in the White Turn In Box. Other portions you need to turn in here on Google Classroom.
3- All instructions are posted in assignments on Google Classroom or on the hard copy assignments given to you in Science and Social Studies.
4- READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS. "I didn't know" because you didn't read how to do the assignment does not count and will be held against you when I grade all parts of this assignment. Ask questions if you need to.

Language Arts: Write a Letter to an Outsider
Submit on Google Classroom
Write a letter to one of the characters in The Outsiders from another character in the novel. Your letter should be at least 2 paragraphs. What you write is up to you but be sure to include some details about the story. Write it like the reader does not know what has happened in the novel.

Science: Post Mortem of a Character
Mr. Doran has a hard copy for you to complete. You will need your Language Arts Journal with the quotes you collected yesterday to complete the Post Mortem
The Task: “Dissect” a character by creating a Post Mortem (a body!) of one of the main characters in The Outsiders. You will label certain body parts with your own ideas + textual evidence in order to demonstrate a deep understanding of your character.
Character Options: Ponyboy, Darry, Dally, Cherry, Johnny, (Sodapop or Two-Bit only with special permission).
Final Post Mortem needs to be done will be on the body form on paper in Mr. Doran's class.

Math: Cast the Movie
Complete all work in the graphic organizer and submit it in Google Classroom.
Re-cast the movie The Outsiders using current actors and actresses. Find a picture to insert into the table or describe why they would make a good choice to play the character. DO NOT use the 1983 actors in the roles. Remember how old the characters are in the book while you are recasting.

You will create a Wanted poster for a character from The Outsiders. You will determine whether he/she shows acts of loyalty or rivalry in the book.

3- I am collecting all 5 lessons for a 60% grade in my class. If you need any of the activities (because you have that class during 7 or 8) it will be posted in Google Classroom or you can get copies from the make up work folders in my classroom.
4- When we're done talking you can work on collecting quotes on your character. This will be used tomorrow in Science for the Autopsy of a character.
5- Start finding quotes that describe your character:

6- List the quotes in your journal. You can bullet point them or write the start of them and list the pages so you can find them again. You need at least 10 to 15 quotes. The more options you have the better. They do not need to be whole paragraphs.
7- If you didn't read a text book, you can create a google doc and copy the quotes into your document from the online copy of The Outsiders.
If you are going to listen while you read-- please use your Ear Buds. Remember to READ along while you LISTEN. Have the book up on your Chromebook or sign out a hard copy book. They are on the Text Book cart in the front of the room. Sign books out on the Clipboard on the front podium table.

TITLE: Chs. 5-8 Review
2- In your journals draw a line down the middle of your page, and a line in the middle of the page so you have 4 boxes on your page. Write Ch. 5 in the top left corner, Ch. 6 in the top right corner, Ch. 7 in the bottom left corner, Ch. 8 in the bottom right corner.
3- As a table discuss each chapter together and list 2 or 3 bullet points about what happened or what characters were involved.
4- Mrs. Thomason will give you about 10 or 15 minutes to do this before the quiz.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1-Once you are done with your review, put your journal away and put your Outsiders book under your chair. You can start the quiz once Mrs. Thomason gives you the go ahead. It is posted in Google Classroom.
2- When you are done with your quiz you can work on your One-Pager you need to be quiet and work-- others may be taking the quiz. It is not a social hour. It is time to work.
3- All details on the One-Pager are posted in Google Classroom.
4- If you are done, turn it into the turn in box and then you can read until the bell. You MUST be working and not SOCIALIZING.
5- If Mrs. Thomason leaves me a note about you, you will sit in silent lunch for 2 days and/or get a D-Log. Please do what you need to do to finish work or The Outsiders.
