Title: IRB Reflection
Pick one of the following prompts and write about your current IRB book.
(1) Connect
Connect personally with what you are reading. Think about the similarities between the characters and descriptions in the selection and what you have personally experienced, heard about, or read about. Write the connections in the reading log. Remember that text connections can be text-to-self, text-to-text or text-to-world. Once you have made these connections, find a quote from your reading to substantiate your connection.
(2) Predict
As you read, try to figure out what will happen next and how the selection might end. Write these predictions down in the reading log. Keep reading to see how accurate you were. You must explain thoroughly why you made the prediction and give specific reasons for this prediction. You must back up your prediction with information from the story and cite the page the info is from.
(3) Compare/Contrast
Choose two characters from the reading section to compare and contrast. You may use a T-chart or a Venn Diagram to compare/contrast them. Then write a paragraph to summarize your comparison/contrast of your two characters.
(4) Clarify/Summarize
Stop and review what you understand about your reading. Write a few sentences of what has happened so far. Answer any questions you had earlier. Make notes about anything you find confusing… OR you may just summarize the section your read. If you choose to write a summary, it must be written in YOUR OWN WORDS…NOTHING can be copied from the book, back of the book or any internet site. Your summary must be at least two paragraphs in length. You must also include one quote from the text to substantiate your summary. Tell the page on which your information is found.
(5) Evaluate
Form opinions about what you read. Develop your own ideas about the characters and events. Your opinions should be clearly stated and supported in the reading log. Tell why you agree or disagree with the decisions made by the characters or why you agree or disagree with the author. You must use specific information from the text to support your opinions.
