BELL RINGER:
1- Open the Independent Reading Page on this website and read through the page.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll discuss the IRB projects for this 9 weeks.
2- You'll have the period to read your IRB.

3- Next week we'll be starting our Outcast Book Club project. You will be reading a fiction book for class-- which will not count as your 2nd IRB. The faster you finish your 1st IRB will only help you. You will still have to read your Fiction Book for class- AND a 2nd IRB for your IRB projects.
4- You need to be reading EVERY DAY in order to get through these 9 weeks.

READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1- You need your Chromebooks and your IRBs.
2- Sit where you want- I will move you if I need to.
3- Turn into the White Turn In Box your Theseus and the Minotaur Plot and Hero's Journey Graphic Organizer.
BELL RINGER:
1- Close all your browsers.
2- Log into Google Classroom. Read the instructions for the quiz but DO NOT START until I tell you.
CLASS ACTIVITY:1
1- We'll discuss the story for a few minutes.
2- Take the quiz.
3- When you are done, you can read your IRB and work on your Independent Reading Guide.
4- No talking at all. Please read quietly or work quietly.
5- You can also catch up on anything you owe me as well- Check Google Classroom for other assignments.

READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1- You need your Chromebooks, your IRBs, and a pen or pencil.
2- Come and pick a card to see where you sit.
Jacks: Station One
Queens: Station Two
Kings: Station Three
Tens: Station Four
Nines: Station Five
3- Clip your cards to the clipboard ON TOP.
BELL RINGER:
1- Open Theseus and the Minotaur.
2- Take a sheet off of the clipboard- ONE per person.
3- Write your Name and Period at the top of The Hero's Journey side of your paper. Don't forget your period- I will take points off for not including it.
4- This is your study guide and notes for the Quiz tomorrow.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll discuss the story for a few minutes.
2- Your goal is to complete both sides of the organizer-- one side is the plot structure, and the other is the Hero's Journey of Theseus. You can add as many details as you want to prepare for your quiz.
3- If your team can't help with sections, move to another table and ask others. If you can't find anyone to help you with your organizer-- you can ask me.
4- Using the cards on your clipboard you can call me to your table to help you. You can ask me with as many cards as you have. Once you run out of cards, you have to rely on other teams to help you.
5- You may move around the class to talk to different people-- only 6 people per table at a time. If a table has 6 people-- you need to find another one.
6- This is a discussion and a sharing of information activity. Use your classmates to help you understand the plot and hero's journey of Theseus.
7- This sheet is due before you take your Quiz tomorrow.

READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1- You need your Chromebooks, your Journal, your IRBs, and a pen or pencil.
2- Sit with your same group from yesterday.
3- Get your group note sheet out of the Red Basket to finish in class.
BELL RINGER:
1- With your group finish your note sheet.
2- Also take the time to finish your journal entries.
3- Once you are done, I will stamp your Journals and collect your group work for your station grade.
CLASS ACTIVITY:1- We’ll watch the short video- "The Hero's Journey."
2- After watching the video, we’ll discuss the hero’s journey/monomyth.
3- Students will then complete the following journal entry after our discussion.
Journal Entry:
Date: 1/9/18
TITLE: The Monomyth
Is Campbell right by saying that all heroic journeys are really one myth? Write at least a paragraph discussing this idea of a "monomyth" in modern literature/films.
4- Make sure you have a CLAIM and 2 pieces of EVIDENCE from the reading and the short video and then JUSTIFY your reasons to support our claim.
5- Once you are done reading you can put your Journal away, and read your IRB and work on your IRB Guide for Book #1.

3- Please place all of your extra things- binders, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc on the black counter by the pencil sharpeners.
BELL RINGER:
1- Open your Chromebook and read through the Stations for today.
2- You will start at the stations you are sitting at and rotate in numerical order.
3- You will have 8 minutes per station.
4- Station Five- is the catch up station. If you are there, you need to finish whatever station you did not complete.
5- At your last station I will stamp your Journals and collect your group work for your station grade.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
STATION ONE: Writing- Journal Entry
TITLE: Create your Hero
DATE: 1/8/18
1- Using the last 4 numbers of your phone #-- choose the four parts that will make up your hero story.
2- Follow the chart below. You should all have a Hero, a Setting, a Gift, and a Theme.
3- Once you have created your hero, you should write a short introductory paragraph about your hero or perhaps the start of a short story.
STATION TWO: Read- Theseus and the Minotaur1- Read the short story "Theseus and the Minotaur" Print Story
2- If you have earbuds you can listen to the audio and read along with the text: AUDIO
3- You will not finish reading in this station. You can complete it in Station Five and or at home. You must have it read by class time Wednesday. There will be a quiz on the story on Thursday.
STATION THREE- Video- The Hero's Journey
1- Use your earbuds or click on the Closed Captioning with no sound-- and watch the video The Hero's Journey
2- In your Journal- write draw and write the parts of the hero's journey. You can use the video or the image below.

STATION FOUR: Notes- Group activity
1- Take the form on the clipboard and complete the activity sheet together. You can re-look at the video or the notes you took in your journal. Work together to complete this activity.
2- This should be a DISCUSSION- everyone talking and helping one person fill out the form. You can keep it short and to the point.
STATION FIVE: Catch up- Finish any station or finish reading Theseus and the Minotaur.

2- After we have announcements and you have completed all your library business-- you can sit in the comfy chairs to read.
BELL RINGER:
READ THESE REMINDERS:
1- Pick up an Independent Reading Guide on your Current Book.
2- Fill out the top with your name, period, book title etc. and complete Day 1 on your CURRENT book.
3- You need to complete one of these packets for EACH book you log into the Google Form once you finish reading it.
4- You do not need to do one for any of the books you read last semester.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- You can return, renew, or borrow new books.
2- Once you have a book, log it into the Independent Reading google form.

3- Come and meet with me to update your list.
4- Remember to complete your Independent Reading Guide for every book you read for the rest of the year.
5- You can turn in the Guide at any time. You need to complete 2 guides per 9 weeks (that means- read 2 books).
6- Every other form you fill out (above the 2 books) you can get 20 extra credit points for completing.
7- If you do not complete a form on your book, it will be taken off your google form list. (So if you do not finish a book, you do not need to complete a form).
