WHEN YOU WALK INTO THIS CLASSROOM
READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1-You need your IRB and a pen or a pencil.
2- HAVE THESE THINGS/SHARPEN PENCILS BEFORE CLASS--DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS.
If you are not prepared for class- you will sit in silent lunch.
3- Sit in assigned seats.
BELL RINGER: (You should be DOING THIS WHEN THE BELL RINGS)
1- Look at the IRB assignments on Google Classroom- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOTH ASSIGNMENTS.
2- Note the changes for the BOTH assignments.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll discuss the IRB assignments.
2- When we're done, you can read and/or work on your IRB projects.
3- I'll call you up to check reading goals. This is your last check as the next reading day is 4/27 and you should be done with your book by then. The following week, your IRB projects will be DUE.
Homework:
1- Read your IRB Novel. You must finish reading your book by 5/1.
2- Book Talk Gallery Walk on 5/3.
3- Book Talk Thinking and Writing Assignments Due 5/4.

TITLE: The Children's March
2- You will add to your notes today about your 25 facts from the Mighty Times: The Children's March Video.
3- DO NOT TOUCH THE ITEMS IN THE BASKET ON THE TABLE. THIS MEANS YOU TOO.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll finish watching the video.
2- When we're done, please highlight 5 facts you think are the most important from your list.
3- Turn and talk to your table about your facts. Discuss any similarities/differences between your 5 facts. Choose one person from your table to share your findings with the bigger group.
4- We'll have our discussion take a Birmingham Pledge from the basket and sign it.
1st Line: Sign your name and print.
2nd Line: Write Hoover, Alabama
3rd Line: Write R. F. Bumpus Middle School
4th Line: Write the date 4/18/2018
5- You can work on your IRB reading projects if there is time.

TITLE: The Children's March
2- After you date and title your page- write a short paragraph about how effective you think children or teens can be as protestors for civil rights? Give me at least one example about kids protesting and if it helped their cause.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll discuss our journal entries.
2- After our discussion- we'll watch "The Children's March" video about The Birmingham Children's Crusade.
3- While we watch you need to list 25 facts you learned about the Civil Rights Movement in your journal.
4- If we don't finish the video-- we'll continue watching tomorrow in class.

Today is Monday, April 16
WHEN YOU WALK INTO THIS CLASSROOM
READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1-You need your Chromebooks-- and a pen or a pencil.
2- HAVE THESE THINGS/SHARPEN PENCILS BEFORE CLASS--DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS.
If you are not prepared for class- you will sit in silent lunch.
3- Sit where you like today.
BELL RINGER: (You should be DOING THIS WHEN THE BELL RINGS)
1- Sit with a partner at any table.
2- Pull up your Essay Draft. If you have no draft you need to sit at the counter and finish your draft. You will also sit in Working Lunch today (Periods 1, 3 & 4)
or tomorrow (Periods 7 & 8).
3- Share your draft with your partner so they can edit your document.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
Today we are completing Proofreading Stations-- follow the instructions below on what needs to be completed- you will have 3 stations (10 minutes a piece) to complete with your partner. When you are done, you can work on your essay- it is due at 3:30pm today.
STATION ONE: Conventions
1- Read through their essay and look for the following:
A- Spelling errors-- spell check it and see if there are any problems-- edit any words that are spelled incorrectly.
B- Capital letters-- make sure all sentences, proper nouns, names, cities, states, countries, the song "Glory"-- ALL START with a Capital Letter. Also, Make Sure There Are No Words In A Sentence That Randomly Start With A Capital Letter.
C- Periods-- make sure all sentences end with a period.
D- Personal Pronouns-- make sure there is no use of "I", "you" or "me" or "my" in the essay-- it should all be written in formal language.
E- Contractions- NO contractions used in the essay. Example: can't= cannot; didn't= did not; doesn't= does not etc.
STATION TWO: MLA Form- look at the sample essay for the correct form
A- Five Paragraphs-- make sure there are five paragraphs in the essay-- a clear introduction with a claim as the last sentence in the introduction; 3 body paragraphs; and a conclusion paragraph that does not start off with "In conclusion..."
B- Double-Spaced-- make sure the essay is double-spaced and NOT centered. It should be LEFT justified and each paragraph should be indented at the first line.
C- Header and Title-- make sure you have a correct MLA name header and a TITLE that is NOT "Glory" Essay.
D- Lyrics-- make sure all the lyrics from "Glory" are italicized and in "quotation marks."
STATION THREE: Content and clarity
A- Make sure the essay makes sense and supports the claim.
B- Make sure the lyrics are explained in the body paragraphs.
C- Make sure the justification paragraph wraps up all the information and restates the claim in a new way.
D- Once you look for A, B, and C-- -- talk to your partner and let them know if they need to fix or better support their claim in any way.
Once you are done with the 3 stations, you can work at your last station on revising and fixing your essay and turning it in.
