WHEN YOU WALK INTO THE LIBRARY
READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1-You need your Chromebooks, a pen or pencil, and your IRBs.
2- GO GET THESE THINGS/SHARPEN PENCILS BEFORE CLASS--DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS.
If you are not prepared for class- you will sit in silent lunch.
3- Only 2 at each table.
4- If someone can pass out the Glory sheets from yesterday, that would be great.
BELL RINGER: (You should be DOING THIS WHEN THE BELL RINGS)
1- Complete the 3rd reflection.
2- Wait to complete the last 2 questions- we'll be talking about something specific before you complete it.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- After everyone is caught up- we'll talk about this prompt: What is the meaning of "Glory" and how it applies to our world today. Is the message from this song relevant for audiences in 2018? Why or why not? Include significant details to support your claim.
2- Once we're done we'll be talking about the song, you can complete the last 2 questions.
3- Turn in your sheet to the white Turn In Box.
4- Read for the rest of the period. Reading Goal check next week 4/13.
Homework:
1- Read your IRB Novel. You must finish your book by May 1.
Today is Thursday, April 5
WHEN YOU WALK INTO THIS CLASSROOM
READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1-You need your Chromebooks, a Glory handout, 3 colored pencils (DO NOT GET YELLOW OR WHITE). SHARPEN COLORED PENCILS IN THE HAND CRANK SHARPENER BEFORE CLASS STARTS.
2- GO GET THESE THINGS/SHARPEN PENCILS BEFORE CLASS--DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS.
If you are not prepared for class- you will sit in silent lunch.
3- Sit in your assigned seats.
BELL RINGER: (You should be DOING THIS WHEN THE BELL RINGS)
1- Read the piece "Glory."
2- Using ONE of your colored pencils- UNDERLINE words and phrases that really stick out to you as you read the piece.
3- When you are done reading-- complete the 1st writing reflection in the right-hand column.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- After everyone is with the 1st read-through we'll talk about the poem.
2- Once we're done with the 1st reading and discussion-- I'll play a performance of the song and we'll use a second colored pencil to CIRCLE phrases and words that have new meaning for you now.
3- Complete the 2nd reflection in the right-hand column.
4- During the 3rd read-through use a third color and STAR words and images that really mean something to the song and video while you watch.
5- Complete the 3rd reflection in the right-hand column.
6- If we do not finish the activity-- we'll finish in the Library tomorrow.
BRING IRBS and READING GUIDES to complete in the Library.

1- Take a sheet from the clipboard--ONE PER PERSON.
Fill out the top portion of the sheet.
2- You are the 1st person-- start answering the questions.
3- This is based on the Newsela Article we read on Monday. If you need to look at it- there are some hard copies on the tables or you can open it up on your Chromebook.

1- After everyone is done with the top part of the handout-- we'll discuss what needs to be done.
2- We'll really going to be discussing the issue and how you all agree or disagree with each other.
3- We'll take turns responding to each other's writing, and discussing the issue even further based on the article that we read.
4- You may at any time refer back to the article and the charts for details and evidence in your writing.
5- After our discussion, if there is time, you can read or start your IRB Reading Guide.
6- If you were absent yesterday, make sure you establish your Reading Goal for 4/13. See yesterday's Daily Schedule for more details.

2- GO GET THESE THINGS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THEM- DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS TO ASK TO GET THESE ITEMS.

3- Sit 2 to a table on the rectangles.

1- Do all your Library business-
RETURN or RENEW.
2- If you are going to BORROW, wait until after announcements.

1- You need to get a post-it note and set your 1st Reading Goal.

TITLE: What are "Civil Rights"?
In your own words, write a short paragraph about what you think "Civil Rights" mean. Don't worry about being right or wrong, just write what you think it means, or what is the history behind the meaning of the phrase.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll talk about our journal entries.
2- Then as a table, you'll work on completing the ABC chart- write one word in each of the blocks-- the word should start with each letter of the alphabet.
3- When your group is done-- read this Newsela for your Article of the Week assignment. Take the QUIZ and complete the WRITE prompt for your grade.
4- We'll discuss your ABC sheets in class tomorrow.
5- If you don't finish the Newsela in class, finish by Wednesday 4/4.
6- We meet in the Library tomorrow! If you have Library books, bring them with you.
