READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1- You need your Chromebooks, Journals, a pen/pencil, and your IRB.
If you do not have these items GET THEM NOW.
2- If your pencil needs sharpening- DO THIS BEFORE CLASS- I don't have a sharpener, so visit one of the other classrooms on the hall and get this DONE. Otherwise- use a PEN.
3- Sit in the formation.
4- If you are done with your Butterflies- turn them into the WHITE TURN IN BOX.
BELL RINGER:
1- On a fresh page, write the title of your book at the top of the page.
Beneath the title-- write the following:
Weekly Reading Journal Prompt #1- 9/8/2017
2- Pick one of your Weekly Reading Journal prompts and write about your book. Write at least a paragraph about your book.
3- From today on, you need to write a prompt each week for each reading goal. I'll count this one today for your Book Conference grade.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- After writing your journal entry for today, you need to make up your post-it for your book conference.
2- You need to write the following on a POST-IT:
3- I will not call you up today. You need to bring your book, your journal, and your post it with you to my work table when you are ready.
4- If you do not see me- you do not get a grade today. No exceptions and NO ETA meetings.
5- When you are done meeting with me, READ. No working on Butterflies or other homework today- READ to make next week's Reading Goal.

BELL RINGER:
1- Grab a paper butterfly from the black counter.
2- If you are still not sure what to do with your Butterfly, see some of the samples posted on the wall above the counter.
3- Then use your JOURNAL to write a reflection about yesterday.
4- ON a page next to your notes from yesterday, or in the space under your notes, please write a short reflection about what you learned yesterday from watching the video and reading the poems.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- After the writing, your job is to create a butterfly that is representative of the young author that you chose.
2- Make sure to write the child’s name and important information about them on your butterfly. It is yours. Make it how you wish as you honor this child.

BELL RINGER:
1- Finish any of the stations from yesterday- look on Google Classroom and make sure you have finished all of the assignments for Stations ONE through FOUR. You'll have 10 minutes.
2- If you are done with ALL of your stations, then start reading through the poems “I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Children’s Drawings and Poems from Terezin Concentration Camp 1942–1944”.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll talk about Terezin and watch a short video about the children of the camp from 60 minutes.
2- After watching the video, you'll read the poems “I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Children’s Drawings and Poems from Terezin Concentration Camp 1942–1944”.
3- Read at least 5 poems and then choose one.
4- Once you read the poems we’ll write a short reflection about what you read in your journals.

If you do not have these items GET THEM NOW.
If you do not have earbuds you will need to watch the videos on Closed Captioning and read the audio to yourself.
2- If your pencil needs sharpening- DO THIS BEFORE CLASS- I don't have a sharpener, so visit one of the other classrooms on the hall and get this DONE. Otherwise- use a PEN.
3- Sit at one of the Stations. Put EVERYTHING, other than your Journal and Chromebooks, into the basket under your desk. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON THE FLOOR. If you put your stuff in via the front or back, not the side of your desk, it will all fit.
BELL RINGER:1- Check your email-- see if there's anything you need to read or do.
2- Delete messages that are old or you have already responded to.
3- You MUST check your email DAILY. Get into the habit of doing that during ETA.
CLASS ACTIVITY:STATION ONE- READING Newsela: Diversity Article
1- Head to Newsela and open the article assigned to you: "Somali woman on police force stirs controversy in St. Paul, Minnesota" READ AT 1110L. If you read at another level I can see that and I will not give you full credit for your work.
2- After reading, you will answer the question I have attached. Click “Open Activities” and then “Write” to get to it.
3- If you are completing on paper, answer the following question and turn into White Turn In Box at the Station.
Question:
Our Driving Question for the year is: Is it our similarities or our differences that matter most and why? Explain how this article can apply to your answer of this question.
STATION TWO- RESEARCHING: ID Cards and Maps
1- Take an ID card- this is your identity during the rest of the Holocaust Unit.
2- Take a Map of WWII Europe.
3- Tape them into your Journals side ways- like the sample on the station.
4- After you have taped them into your journal, track the places on the map that your person lived, was sent to, was deported to in their story. Using a RED pen.
5- You may have to use your Chromebook to find approximate places on the map to track their movement. You can use google maps or search for maps of Europe or Concentration Camps online.
STATION THREE- WRITING a Diary Entry
1- In your journal, using your ID Card, write a FIRST PERSON journal entry from the point of view of your person.
2- You can write about your life, your family, your thoughts, and dreams, or your fears of the future. Think about how Anne Frank wrote in her diary and write something inspired by the little bit of information you have about your new identity.
STATION FOUR- VIEWING a Video on How to Change the World
1- Use your ear buds and watch the video "How to Change the World" from Kid President.
2- In the Station Post in Google Classroom, respond to Kid President and write a Class Comment to him about what you'll do to help change the world.
3- Think about our similarities and differences and what that can mean to help change the world.
STATION FIVE- RESPONDING to the poem "I never saw another Butterfly"
1- Open the document "The Butterfly Project."
2- Read the instructions and the Poem "I never saw another Butterfly"
3- After you have read it, start a new page in your journal and title the page "Butterfly Poem." 4- Write a short reflection on what you think about the poem. Think about our theme of similarities and differences, about what the poem makes you feel or think about, think about what it says about being a child during the Holocaust.
If you finish ANY STATION before the timer goes off:
1- You can go back and complete any station you did not finish in the 8 minutes.
2- If you are finished and caught up with all of the stations, you can grab your IRB and read OR finish your Holocaust Research Activity and turn it in.
