DO THIS NOW:
1- You need your Chromebook, your IRB, and a pen or a pencil.
2- Fill the front Library tables FIRST. Please sit in every other seat and not directly across from someone.
BELL RINGER:
1- Take care of Library business- renew, return, or borrow books.
2- Once you are done getting a book set a goal for your current book-- which should be book #2.
3- Take a post it: Write your name at the top; then your book title; next Friday's date: 9/14; and your GOAL Page #.
4- Put the post it on your GOAL PAGE in your book.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- Once you are done with your Reading Goal, you can work on completing the One-Pager Mini-Task for your IRB Book Conferences. You should finish by the end of the period.
2- I'll call you up to conference. If you are not done, you can bring what you have completed and ask any questions during your conference.
One-Pager Instructions
A One-Pager is a way of responding to a piece of writing on a single sheet of paper. It represents your own written and graphic interpretation of what you have read. It may be very literal (just based on the facts or information in the piece) or it may be a symbolic representation of the piece. It helps you as a reader to visualize what you are reading.
Directions:
Required Elements: (may be arranged on the page in any way you choose)
1. Must have two or more excerpts from the reading. (Passages that you like or think are important).
2. Must have a graphic representation: drawing, magazine picture, or computer graphic that ties to the piece you read and the quotes you chose. You will have to print at home if you want to use a computer graphic. There are magazines on the black cabinet for you if you want to use them.
3. Must include a personal response to what you have read: comment, interpretation, evaluation, etc. Write a short paragraph to complete your personal response.
4- BRING your One Pager WITH you to the Library tomorrow for conferences. IF you do not finish in class it is Homework or you can finish in ETA today.

1-Read book #2 and start thinking about what you want to do for your 1st 9 Weeks Projects.
Today is THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

1- Finish your Newsela activity from yesterday. Make sure you are following directions.
We'll be reading a Newsela for our Article of the Week: Syrian refugees' story mimics struggles by Anne Frank's family 75 years ago
2- Read the article at 1050 Lexile AND do the annotations.
3- Take the QUIZ and do the WRITE activity.

TITLE: Exit Slip
1- Write down 3 impacts of colonization on Native Hawaiians.
2- Then write 3 impacts of immigration on Hawai'i.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll finish discussing Mrs. Burbridge's slideshow about Native Hawaiians and life in Hawai'i.
2- If you missed looking at the slide show, please make sure you check it out on Google Classroom or here on our webpage.

TITLE: What I learned about Hawai'i
2- Write a short paragraph about what you learned from last week's presentation. You can look at your fact list to use as examples in your paragraph.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- We'll finish looking at Mrs. Burbridge's slideshow about Native Hawaiians and life in Hawai'i.
2- In your Journal finish your 25 new facts you learned or find interesting as we go through the slideshow.
3- When we are done, we'll discuss your paragraphs.
