Today is Friday, March 23- OUTSIDERS DAY!
WHEN YOU WALK INTO THIS CLASSROOM-
READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1- Get your poster from the black counter and any supplies you need.
SCHEDULE FOR TODAY:
If you have a class off the hall Periods 1, 2, 6, and 4- You will go to those classes. Come back to the hall starting 5th period to eat lunch and watch the movie with your homeroom.
8:15 – 9:04 1st Period
9:08 – 9:55 2nd Period
9:59 – 10:46 6th Period
10:50 – 11:43 4th Period
11:47 – 12:40 5th Period- 8th graders will eat on the Hall with their Homerooms and prepare for the movie.
The Outsiders Movie will start at 12:30 (it's 2 hours and 34 mins)
12:44-3:15 In Homerooms until we leave for SPRING BREAK!
You will be doing Outsiders activities in:
Math- Cast the Movie (On Google Classroom)
Social Studies- Wanted Posters
Science- Nothing Gold Can Stay poetry activity
You will turn in those activities to Google Classroom or if it is a handout-- to Ms. Whitmire, and Mr. Daughtry's sub-- but you will receive a grade from me for completing any of these activities. If you get done with any activity in another class you can always complete another activity that you did not complete in another class. If you do not have Math/Social Studies or Science today-- do not worry about completing those activities-- you will get a whole score for Outsider Day activities in INow.
BELL RINGER: (You should be DOING THIS WHEN THE BELL RINGS)
1- Turn in your Outsiders IRB packets or any missing/late work if you need to- use the WHITE turn in box.
2- Finish your 2 Levels of Reading Outsiders Chapter Posters.
See instructions below.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- You'll have the rest of the class to work on the activity.
2- IF you and your group finishes your poster, ask Mrs. Burbridge where in the room you can hang it.
3- If there is time, it would be great if a couple of people pass back work from the Red Class Box- that would be great.
4- No Homework for break! Have a great week off!
3 Levels of Reading Poster Instructions
Today is Thursday, March 22
WHEN YOU WALK INTO THIS CLASSROOM-
READ AND DO THIS NOW:
1- You need your calendar and a pen or pencil.
2- GO GET THESE THINGS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THEM- DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS TO ASK TO GET THESE ITEMS.
If you are not prepared for class- you will sit in silent lunch.
3- Sit in your Assigned Seats- Charts are on the wall above the Black Cabinet.
4- ALL of your business must be done by the time I come into the classroom. DO not ask to go to the bathroom, do not ask to go to the counselor, do not ask to GO ANYWHERE. The answer is NO. Do your business during the passing time.
BELL RINGER: (You should be DOING THIS WHEN THE BELL RINGS)
1- Turn in Outsiders Independent Reading Guides.
2- Have one person on your table pick a card and an info sheet from Mrs. B.
3- Sit with your group and read the instructions out loud to each other.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- After we read the directions, I'll discuss the 3 Levels of Reading activity.
2- Whatever card you have is the Chapter you will write about.
3- You'll have the rest of the class to work on the activity. You can finish tomorrow if you have me, if you do not, you can work on the posters during an Outsiders activity period.

1- You need your Chromebooks, Journal, calendar, and a pen or pencil- earbuds if you have them.
2- GO GET THESE THINGS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THEM- DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS STARTS TO ASK TO GET THESE ITEMS.
If you are not prepared for class- you will sit in silent lunch.
3- Sit in your Assigned Seats- Charts are on the wall above the Black Cabinet.
BELL RINGER:
1- Pick up "The Greasers and Socs" hand out on the black counter.
2- Read through it and complete the comparison/contrast Venn Diagram with the vocabulary words. You have 5 minutes to complete this.
CLASS ACTIVITY:
1- Once everyone is done with the Venn Diagram, we'll talk about the differences between the Greasers and the Socs.
2- We'll also cover the differences in their looks and talk about dressing up for Outsiders Day. How to Dress Like an Outsider
3- Once we're done talking-- write the paragraph comparing the two groups on your sheet and turn it into the White Turn In Box.
4- You can read and complete the Independent Reading Guide for The Outsiders-- for the rest of the period.
5- If you did not get your journals stamped yesterday, finish your Newsela quiz, or turn in your vocabulary slips-- please do this-- I'm updating grades today.
6- On your tables are Outsiders books, please leave them there when you leave.You can also read online using the PDF. You can also listen to the book online if you have earbuds.

1- On your table, leave your Chromebook, Journal, Calendar and a pen or pencil at your table. Then put EVERYTHING ELSE you brought to class on the black counter.

2- Write a complete paragraph about what you think about the first half of the book. Use details and explain what you like so far about the characters and the story.
STATION TWO: Read- Newsela Article
1- Log into Newsela and read the article "Study sheds some light on how neighborhoods affect poor teen boys." Read this at 1070L.
2- When you are done reading the article- take the quiz. Your points for this portion of the stations will be based on your quiz score. So read carefully and look back at the article for your answers.
STATION THREE- Slideshow- How to dress like an Outsider
1- Read through the slideshow: How to Dress Like an Outsider
2- In your Journal start a new page-- or if you have already been to Station One, add this entry to your page.

3- Write what group you are going to dress like and perhaps what items from your closet you will use to put your look together.
STATION FOUR: Vocabulary
1- Take a vocabulary word sheet from the clipboard.
2- Find a word that you are not familiar with from the book-- from any chapter. Add your word to the list on the clipboard- if your word is ALREADY THERE-- you have to find another word to define.
3- Fill out the Vocabulary Slip-
A- Write the word with LARGE print in the box. Use PEN or markers to complete this.
B- Write the DEFINITION of the word in PEN-- look it up on Dictionary.com or Google it to find a good and CORRECT definition.
C- Then write the SENTENCE with the word used in the book. Make sure you use PEN to write it on your slip. Write the entire sentence and then the page # on the slip.
D- When you are done, turn it into the White Turn In Box.
STATION FIVE: Catch up station
1- Finish any station you need to.
2- If you are caught up you can read or work on your IRB Packet- remember you need to finish the book by 3/21.
HOMEWORK:
