Scratchboard
While making this art I was guided by the image I had to base it on. I knew this piece must be realistic and I was going off that idea while creating this. I wanted to match the details on the fur, and the shadows, highlights, and overall shape had to be proportional. I thought this image of my dog would be cool to create on scratchboard because of the detail and placement on the page. I aimed to capture the dramatic look and feel of the original image.
The materials I used while creating this piece were scratchboard and a scratchboard tool. While using this tool I was able to scratch fine details such as fur and thin whiskers.
When I began this project I chose an image that I thought would be able to create the best result on scratchboard. By choosing this image I was then able to add the details such as the shadows and highlights of the fur and the whiskers against the black background. Once I decided on the image, I began scratching away the various shades of white, gray, and in-between to create this representation of my dog.
