Charcoal and ink on pastel paper

What guided me while creating this artwork was the new materials we used. The charcoal and ink were fun to use and I could realistically replicate my image with these materials. With the many layers, I could highlight some areas while shading others and that was the key to completing this art.
The materials I used while making this piece were charcoal and ink on pastel paper. I mostly used charcoal throughout this process, but I added a little gel pen here and there.

The process began with the gridding of my photograph and pastel paper. I then drew each corresponding square on pastel paper with the photograph. I also chose this photo I took because I love my cat's stance, and his eyes stand out. With the bold contrast between the black and white charcoal, I was able to get shadows and highlights where necessary. This really brought out the distinction between the dark and light, especially with the gleam on the eyes.
