Skiing #2

This project was inspired by the impact of skiing on my life. I thought of various aspects of skiing and decided the movement and feeling of wind when skiing would be interesting to explore. My previous SI also helped guide me when planning out and executing this one. The materials of wool and wire were used for both of these pieces and I thought it would help make the scene more diversified in materials and also more wintery and ski-like. 

The base is made out of a foam material which I then surfaced with white acrylic paint. The gusts of wind are formed out of aluminum wire and wool wrapped around it. I found some plants outside and used them as pine trees in this winter scene. I also used hot glue to attach various parts together.

I began with the brainstorming of this idea. I went with it and, with the help of my sketch, aimed to create the feeling and movement of wind with wire. I shaped it into large and small spirals to develop the idea of the strong movement of wind and its presence when skiing down a mountain. I also chose a light green/blue wool color to emphasize the movement and feeling as well. As a last touch, I thought the plants would act as pine trees, helping to illustrate a wintery ski scene.
