Cinnamon Roll
I am exploring the idea of home and childhood and how it influences my life.
I feel the most successful piece I have completed so far is "Cinnamon Roll". With this work, I was able to convey my ideas and incorporate materials like cinnamon paste, enhancing the material synthesis. I illustrated the connection of home and childhood and its impact through the creation of cinnamon rolls with my dad when I was younger. I included our hands beside each other, rolling up the dough.
My "Christmas tree" work was the least successful, lacking details and material synthesis. I did not add enough details to the colors and overall scene. I rushed through the background with the sky, trees, and brown foreground. I did not layer enough with the materials to create depth. The people are not detailed and there is a halo around them. I needed to spend more time and focus on the colors and depth of this piece.
I have struggled with material synthesis and incorporating materials that truly connect to my idea and message. I usually stick with materials like colored pencils, paint, or watercolor, and I need to expand and use more materials and mediums. I want to really explore with my next art pieces and investigate more. I have also struggled with having my art pieces focus on one main subject. I need to incorporate more aspects into the piece, so it is not solely based around one thing.
I can problem-solve the issues I have faced with more exploration and freedom in my next pieces. I can experiment and try new things in future pieces to reach more material synthesis and more complex pieces. I work to include more in my pieces, so there is not only one main focus in it.
I want to explore with more paint, specifically oil paint. I don't use paint a lot and I think this would be a fun new exploration and use of different materials. I also want to try out black paper or scratchboard more because I love the look of a black background with more depth and richness. I want to continue improving my material synthesis by incorporating various outside materials that connect to my inquiry.
My art is slowly developing and improving. My material synthesis has increased within my artwork and will continue to improve as I explore more in the future. I think my art is developing in higher contrast and detail, as well. I will continue developing my art through exploration, experimentation, and guidance through examples of AP portfolios or even current and past artists.
After reading through my peer feedback some major trends and takeaways are my need to incorporate more diverse materials that really connect with my inquiry question of home and childhood. I also need to better convey my message through my art well, with the help of materials and details.
