What guided my candy still life was the four candies I chose from the candy heap. I then created my art piece with the pieces I picked and the arrangement I formed. Throughout this process, I continually tried to maintain a realistic look by matching my image. I wanted to get the colors just right, and by doing that, I layered many colors. With lots of erasing, I tried to draw the precise angle and lines I found in my candy picture. Overall, I simply wanted to produce a piece of art that closely followed the appearance of the image.

I began this piece by sketching out the shape and lines of the candy. I used a graphite pencil for the first step. I then used Prismacolor colored pencils to color in the rest. For different parts of this piece, I used different techniques. For example, the candy wrappers are burnished with colored pencils, and with many layers. Although, the shadows were lightly drawn out, and no burnishing was involved.

This process began with the photographing of the candy. From there I began to draw what I saw and attempted to replicate the image while also enlargening it. The glimmery edges and angles were a difficult part of this project. Instead of drawing or painting white on my piece, I left it blank and unmarked to create a shiny and reflective look. I added shadows to the individual pieces of candy to produce more depth in the artwork.Â
