Skiing #3

When creating this sculpture, I was guided by my inquiry; How does skiing impact my life? I tried to convey that in this art piece. I wanted to specifically display the freedom in skiing and its power. I wanted the skier to be mid-air to portray the feeling of risk-taking and freedom. I thought the contrasting colors of blue, red, and black would fit the skier as well. 

I used wire and newspaper for the armature. I also used paper maché to cover most of the surface. I also used cardboard and origami paper for the skies and poles. 

I began making an armature made out of wire and newspaper to form the general shape. I used blue origami paper to represent the colors in skiing with the sky and snow. I though the red skies would pop and add contrast. I originally began with a few different sketches and went with this one. I had fun but I do think it was a difficult form to make a sculpture out of.
