For this project, I was guided by ideas of climate change, as this is getting submitted into the Tidal Shift competition about climate change and solutions. More specifically, I was guided by my trip to Iceland this past summer and learning of how fast the glaciers are melting due to global warming. It was an impactful experience and I thought I could try and reproduce an art piece that reflected those ideas.
I used graphite pencil for a quick outline of the piece and then went in with colored pencils. I tried to burnish with the colored pencils for a smoother and more finished look. I also tried to deepen the contrast with stronger and brighter colors.
I began brainstorming and thought that this trip to iceland would be fun to try to capture in an art piece. I found a few photos I took and began sketching out some drafts. I thought including people in the piece would be nice because they are the ones facing it and seeing the effects of climate change. I also wanted to create a bright and overwhelming sun to show the intensity of it and to show just how fast things are changing due to climate change.
