This is my final piece in my sustained investigation exploring ideas of home and childhood. I wanted to experiment in this piece while also capturing my investigation ideas and material synthesis. This image of Clio and me when we were younger, matching clothes and sitting on our masonry heater, represents home and childhood. I experimented with materials by using larger drawing paper and pieces of charcoal from the fireplace. 

I used charcoal pieces from my fireplace, the same fireplace that is seen in the background of the art. I broke up pieces of charcoal and was able to use it as a material, blending and shading with the chunks of charcoal. I also used graphite pencils when sketching out a plan. For the intricate details, I used charcoal pencils as they had finer points. 

For this work, I began sketching out a few ideas, hoping to end on a good note in my sustained investigation. I wanted a larger surface area and picked out bigger drawing paper. I thought using charcoal for this piece would be fun because Clio and I are sitting in front of our fireplace, enhancing the material synthesis. I found charcoal pieces from the fireplace and crushed them up a bit, and was able to blend and shade with a brush and my hands. I enjoyed using this material because it was fun to blend and create contrast with the lights and darks.
