These pieces were inspired by photos I took this summer by the ocean in Maine. The two pieces in the middle were made outside during class on the softball field. In those pieces, the foliage and colors inspired me. In the first and last piece, I was inspired by Maine landscapes with the ocean and islands. I thought it would be fun to explore creating oceans with watercolors with their movement and current.
I used a graphite pencil to sketch out an outline for all of these. I then went in with watercolor, using different techniques, to create these pieces.
I first brainstormed what I wanted to paint and I looked through my photos. I chose the photos I wanted to paint off of and went from there. They were all landscape images because that is what we were focusing on with these pieces. I tried to include lots of colors and wanted to experiment with the various watercolor techniques. I thought these landscapes would be fun to create with watercolor because of their vibrant colors and interesting layouts.
