A Chicken Playing Piano
Colored pencils, graphite pencils, watercolor paper
4.75" x 6.75"
I began by choosing my card with the prompt of A Chicken Playing the Piano. I was drawn to this prompt because It is a silly combination, but also a fun one to imagine and create. I love pianos and music and thought it would be fun to draw a chicken playing on one.
I used watercolor paper and graphite pencil to sketch out a general outline of the piano and chicken. I used graphite pencils at first to get a basic plan down before I went in with my colored pencils. I then used Prisma colored pencils and filled in the color of the piano, chicken, and background.
I first picked the prompt and sketched out my ideas in my notebook. Then I outlined my plan on the watercolor paper with the help of online piano and chicken images. I went in with color, using pencils, and filled in the piano and chicken. I wanted the chicken to pop out with the addition of colors. It was fun to use an assortment of colors including brown, orange, yellow, and red for the vibrant chicken. I also chose to draw this from an aerial perspective capturing the piano and flying chicken at a different angle than usual.
