When creating this piece I wanted to capture a moment that feels like home. Being out on the water in Casco Bay is a very familiar and fond feeling and I thought this was a nice image to try to recreate through watercolor. Clio and I's heads are seen in the boat as we look out across the ocean in the setting sun. I liked the orange glow on the water and the white streak beneath the sun and tried to capture this with watercolor paint. 

I used mostly watercolor paint for this landscape of the ocean. I layered it on and used various patterns of streaks, lines, and dots to create the pattern of the water and glimmer of the sun. I also used yarn for the hair as it looks like the same color and I thought it would vary the material use and be a nice addition. I also used black yarn for the bow line on the front of the boat. I used Elmers glue to attach the yarn to the paper. 

I began sketching out a few outlines of ocean landscapes with varied layouts with islands, boats, trees, and suns. I went in with this landscape and painted with watercolor, layering differing colors and patterns to create more depth. I used the yarn and attached it with glue to enhance my material synthesis as it relates to boat lines and resembles hair.
