Flower Hands

3.5" x 3" x 4"

Alginate mold, watercolor, beeswax, glass, copper wire, hot glue, dried flowers

When creating this sculpture I was guided by my molded sculpture of intertwined hands. From this form, I generated ideas for how to add on or take away from it. The positivity from the hands inspired the warm watercolored surface and the copper wire sprouting into a flower.

I started out making an alginate mold of my hands. I used watercolor to paint the surface. I also wrapped copper wire around the wrist which grew upward into a little flower. I used beeswax to fill in the flower petals and add color.

At first, I had the idea to carve maps out of my hands and create negative space. Although, as I continued with the project I wanted to add on rather than carve out. I placed copper wire around the hand and up into a little flower/four-leaf clover. I also decided to use watercolor and paint the hands both orange and red. This hand sculpture is not yet fully complete and I hope to add to it and build off it.
