Castle in the Sun

Acrylic on canvas

What guided me with this artwork was the collage I created from cut-up magazines. I aimed to paint a realistic representation of my collage. I liked the calm and serene feeling of the collage and strived to create that feeling in the painting.

I started this piece on canvas and sketched out the collage design with a graphite pencil. I used acrylic paint for the rest of the painting. I also layered my paint to create the color, details, and depth that improved the overall appearance of this piece.

For this art, I began painting a somewhat accurate representation of the collage images that I chose. This included the sunlit castles, the wolf in the grass, and the canoe in the water. I chose to not include some aspects of the collage in my painting because it made it too complicated or busy. I wanted to pursue the tranquil feeling of this piece and for that reason I chose to leave the canoe empty, drifting in the night.
